Ghent Area Ministry is excited to share that Food Lion has partnered with us in the form of a monetary grant. This blessing will allow us to provide our neighbors with more nutritious foods from both our food pantry, as well as our prepared freezer meals program.

Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation Awards Grant to Ghent Area Ministry

Nourishing our Neighbors grant increases access to nutritious food; provides nutritional education

Norfolk, Virginia – Ghent Area Ministry has received $4400 from the Food Lion Feeds

Charitable Foundation to help nourish neighbors experiencing hunger. The Nourishing our

Neighbors grant supports community feeding partners by helping neighbors increase their

access to nutritious food and providing nutrition education to eliminate health risks for those

experiencing food insecurity.

This gift will allow Ghent Area Ministry (GAM) to more than double its distribution of ready-

to-eat meals to low-income families and single parents. During eight months of 2025, 671

quarts of meals were distributed from the GAM food pantry including Jambalaya, Brunswick

Stew, smoked sausage-collard-sweet potato stew, and ham & corn chowder among others.

It will also allow GAM to greatly increase the 35,000 pounds of food distributed to over 4000

individuals in 2025. Food Lion Feeds will make a significant impact on our ability to combat

food insecurity in Norfolk.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food

insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the Foundation provides

financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the

communities it serves. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded nearly $23 million in

grant funding to help nourish communities with fresh food.
